Both the major parties in British politics are expected to receive a drubbing in local, Scottish and Welsh elections in Britain on 7 May 2026 and, in the case of the ruling Labour Party, could also cause a revolt against Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
These elections will reveal a crisis that has been ongoing for nearly two decades and include major milestones such as Brexit, the mismanagement of the pandemic, the brief and disastrous tenure of Liz Truss as Prime Minister, a major fiscal crisis and more.
This panel will evaluate the results, what they reveal about the ability of Britain’s ruling classes to retain control over events and their implications for the future of Britain’s political economy.
