The dominant western media have reported the recent unrest in Belarus as a popular protest against a dictator. Our panel delves beneath this portrayal to uncover the considerably more complex background including the roles of the left, regional powers, the Lukashenko regime and its evolution since the end of the Soviet Union and the world context of US China relations.
